Child Custody

In Florida "child custody" is known as time sharing, visitation and parental responsibility.

Florida has a presumption of shared parental responsibility. There is no presumption for or against the father or mother of the child or for or against any specific time-sharing schedule when creating or modifying the parenting plan of the child. Under certain circumstances it may be shown that one parent should have sole custody and responsibility.

The court's goal in determining the proper time sharing arrangement is serving the best interests of the child. The court will address both physical custody of the child and legal custody (the parent's involvement in decision making regarding the child, including education, healthcare, and welfare).
